Cheap Hotels in Arenal
The Arenal volcano is located close to the La Fortuna town. The volcano has been erupting almost continuously since 1968, but since October 2010 it’s been in a resting state.
The volcano is not the only landmark in the area. Lake Arenal and the Arenal waterfall are also excellent choices for day trips. The hot springs are a good way to relax after a hike.

The Arenal area is home to some of the best hotels in Costa Rica. Affordable hotels can be found in the near-by town of La Fortuna . More expensive hotels are located at the base of the volcano and in the surrounding rainforest. Most hotels offer spectacular views of the volcano.

Hotel Las Colinas Boutique (2-stars)
It is located next to La Fortuna Central Park and is an eco-friendly hotel with superb views of the Arenal volcano. The hotel offers a restaurant. Each room has wi-fi , cable TV, minibar and ensuite bathroom.
There’s a tour desk within the hotel where you can book trips to Arenal Hot Springs and Fortuna Waterfalls or various activities.
In March 2012, expect to pay US$65 per night for a standard room (2 persons), breakfast included.
Hotel Arenal Lodge (4-stars)
It is located in the rainforest and offer panoramic views of Arenal Volcano and Arenal Lake. The hotel offers a fitness room, a children’s game room and an outdoor play area. All rooms have AC, microwave and cable TV.
Private boats (owned by the hotel) can be used for fishing in the lake.
In March 2012, expect to pay US$90 per night for a standard double room, breakfast included.
Arenal Montechiari (3-stars)
It offers cottages set in tropical gardens and spectacular views of the Arenal volcano. It is located 400m from La Fortuna central park. There’s a free wi-fi zone, a restaurant, a bar and an outdoor pool. All cottages have AC, cable TV, fridge and coffee maker.
In December 2011, expect to pay US$79 per night in a cottage (2 adults), breakfast included. Book the cottage ahead of time.
