Costa Rica What to Do & See

There’s no limit to the things you can do or see during your visit to Costa Rica. We’ve come up with a few ideas though to get you off to a flying start.

Isla de Cocos

2407139607_251abc02bc_m.jpgRemember that famous Disney movie Treasure Island (yes I know it was book as well)? Did you wonder if ever such a pirate hideaway existed? Not only does it exist, but it is located off the coast of Costa Rica. It is belived that Isla de Cocos is the very island that inspired the novel, Treasure Island. Although there has never been any actuall treasure found on the island, there are plenty of myths, legends and stories that say otherwise. It is these stories and the amazing scenery that bring people to this pirate hideaway every year.

Arenal Waterfall

Arenal Waterfall - La Fortuna
Arenal Waterfall
Just outside the city of La Fortuna is the Arenal Waterfall Park. A visit to the Arenal Waterfall Park is a great way to spend the day in the La Fortuna area. Many visitors spend the first half of the day at the Arenal Waterfall Park, then make their way to Tabacon Hot Springs to relax, and finish off the day with volcano watching. This is a full days worth of activities, but the Arenal Waterfall Park alone is still a great half days worth of adventure travel.

Costa Rica Explorer Tour

tour.jpgBeing the ecological hot spot that Costa Rica is, there is no shortage of amazing things to see and do. In fact, the only real problem with Costa Rica is that there is too much to see and do. Short of backpacking around the country for several months, there is almost no way to see everything Costa Rica has to offer. For this very reason, many travelers look to organized tours to help them maximize their time abroad. The Costa Rica Explorer Tour is one such tour.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens

La Paz Waterfall Gardens - 1 hour North of San Jose

If you are stuck in San Jose you may find yourself bored very quickly. Short of some night clubs and a ton of museums, there isn’t much to do in the city. If you have an entire day to kill, I would suggest looking into a trip to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. The Waterfall Gardens are filled with animals, great views, hiking, and tons of waterfalls.

Playa Tamarindo

tamarindo.jpgWhat was once a tiny and secluded beach where people went to watch turtles nest has become a well to do suburbia of expats from all around the world. Much has changed about the beach town of Playa Tamarindo, but the beautiful beaches that made it so popular years ago are still drawing in the crowds today. Thanks to new airports, bridges, and roads, Playa Tamarindo is becoming one of the most popular up and coming destinations in Costa Rica.

San Jose

san-jose.jpgIf you are visiting Costa Rica, odds are you will be flying into the capital city of San Jose. Many people simply stay in San Jose because they have to, not because they want to. However, if you plan to go anywhere in Costa Rica, you will have to make your way to San Jose. San Jose is the central hub for transportation in the country.

Because of this, many travelers use San Jose as a layover city or as base camp of sorts. Its takes between 3 to 5 hours to get anywhere in Costa Rica from San Jose. This makes it hard to cross the country in a single day. Thus, forcing many travelers to spend the night in San Jose and catch a bus or plane in the morning.

Eco Termales

Eco Termales - The smallest and most private of all the hot springs.
eco-springs.jpg
The Eco Termales hot springs may be the smallest of the hot springs in the area, but you won’t find any of the guests complaining about it. In fact, its size and strict reservation system is one of its main selling points. Eco Termales admission is based on a reservation system. This reservation system is designed to keep the number of guests to a minimum, therefore, ensuring that everyone has their own privacy and that the springs don’t get over crowded.
