Pension Santa Elena
There are a number of decent budget accommodation’s in the mountain town of Santa Elena, Pension Santa Elena is by far my favorite. They may not have the nicest rooms or a wealth of amenities, but what they do have is an outstanding staff and a great atmosphere.
Pension Santa Elena is strange arrangements of buildings, sheds, rooms, and walkways; typical of these strange sized mountain lots. The hostel has a community kitchen with free coffee and tea. The free coffee is outstanding and comes from local coffee fields in Monteverde. The coffee is also available for purchase in the hostel.
There are a limited number of community bathrooms and showers, all with cold water of course. The staff here is truly outstanding and was the deciding factor in us staying there. They were very helpful in setting up reservations for us, pointing out free things to do in town, and even hung out with the guests daily.
