The location is simply the best in the area: it is RIGHT in front of the biggest, cleanest and best beach in the whole area. It is a short bike ride/drive or longer walk away from the centre of Puerto Viejo which is definitely a good thing as it is quiet at night. Also the beaches near the centre of the town are nowhere near as nice as the beach in front of Totem. This beach is a long, wide stretch of pristine sand and is absolutely beautiful. Totem Resort has a lovely atmosphere - in fact it is run by an Italian family and this feeling of warmth is everywhere. They are always willing to help yet it is very informal and you'll feel right at home. The food is SUPERB - in Costa Rica it can quite honestly be hard to find good quality food but here the food is as good as any you will find in Italy if not better. Nico the chef is just brilliant. The rooms are good quality and clean. We stayed in the beachfront suite which was lovely. In all, a lovely place with a lovely atmosphere in the best location of Puerto Viejo. Highly recommend it.
