The Tranquillo Backpackers hostel in Mal Pais is by far the best place to stay in this small beach town. I don’t know if id go so far as to call Tranquillo Backpackers a party hostel, but there is usually a heavy amount of drinking going on every night. The hostel is pretty well known as a surf hostel and as such, half of the guests are usually surfers. For those of you who wish to retire early or aren’t into the party scene, security guards try to do their best to enforce the “quiet time” rule.

If the quite time rule is a little early for you, don’t worry, there are a few bars and discos in town. If you want to take the party to the beach, there is a grocery/liquor store right beside the hostel.

As I said before, the hostel is very popular among surfers. There are surf racks everywhere you look, a outdoor shower for you and your board, and plenty of places to hang your wet clothes. The dorm rooms are a bit small and have three bunk beds in them. There is a community kitchen and group showers. On a side note, the free breakfast is just pancake batter. You have to fix the pancakes yourself.
