Maleku Hostel

maleku.jpgThe Maleku Hostel is one of the nicer hostels close to the airport. Only about 10 minutes away from the airport in San Jose, the Maleku Hostel is perfect for those looking for a short, overnight stay in San Jose or a place to spend the night before they leave the country.

Its important to note that the name is a little misleading. Maleku Hostel is more of a guest house than an actual hostel. The building itself is a mid sized house that has been converted into a hostel. It is a very nice place, just very small.

There are a few private rooms that offer twin and single sized bunk beds, but no private bathrooms. The dorm rooms have 6-8 beds and larger backpack sized storage lockers in the room. Further back in the house is an area with free lockers for your personal items like passports and cameras.

The staff here is the family that owns and runs the hostel. The father is very nice, but speaks little English. The daughter, who is there most of the time, is very nice and speaks perfect English. She will be more than happy to help you with directions or anything else you need.

The house is small and is anything but a party spot. People here are laid back and are either here just for the night or as a place to live in San Jose. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay for a few days or even a few weeks, Maleku Hostel is a good choice.
